I’m Zahra, the founder of Horizon Hub, and the daughter of a refugee from the former Yugoslavia.
Growing up, I watched my dad – along with other family members – navigate an entirely new world with limited English, little guidance, and a tremendous amount of resilience.
From finding doctors to completing paperwork to understanding basic systems, everything took extra time, effort, and translation. Witnessing those everyday challenges made one thing clear to me: there should be a simpler way for refugee families to access help.
That’s why I created Horizon Hub – a centralized, accessible resource directory that connects individuals and families with real support in their community. I began by building and testing it as a Google Site with local refugee organizations. Since then, it has grown to include resources across multiple towns and categories, from housing and healthcare to legal aid, food access, education, employment, and transportation.
Horizon Hub is more than a website — it’s a bridge. It’s built from the experience of my family, and for the families who need it now.
